Jokake Senior Project Manager Rob Scherer is celebrating 20 years with Jokake Construction! He’s built in almost every building around the Valley, and is our busiest Project Manager. If you know Rob, you know he’s a die hard fan of all things Arizona, especially the Cardinals and Diamondbacks, despite their record! Looking back on 20 years at Jokake and 40 years in construction, Rob offers an inside look on what has made him successful and how to achieve that same success.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received, and from whom?
Former Jokake Owner Mike Smith and Former Jokake Director of Project Management Dennis Cogins instilled in me the importance of acting with integrity when budgeting a project and targeting projects for repeat clients.
What mistake did you make early on in your career that you learned from?
As a young Project Manager, I missed cost on a handful of preliminary numbers, and I had to eat that cost. You only have to make that mistake a few times to learn!
Where do you attribute your success?
The knowledge of construction before I started working in the industry professionally. I have been working on jobs or jobsites since I was in 8th grade.
Which industry would you try if you started your career again?
I would not change a thing.
One piece of advice you’d give the next generation of construction professionals?
If you’re going to be a Project Manager, get field experience. I spent 20 years in the field, and it made me understand the whole project in a different way.
