NRG Renew’s Scottsdale Office Wins 2016 Best Interior Office Redesign RED Award

Design-build project delivers visually complex elements, functionality and technology.

NRG Renew is an international company working to ensure a clean energy future. Jokake Construction was the general contractor on NRG’s new Scottsdale office located in the Portales Corporate Center. Completed in summer 2015, the project was recognized as Best Interior Office Redesign project at the 2016 Real Estate Development Awards.

The 28,000 SF office took a previously closed-off floor plate with 60 offices and transitioned it, while occupied, to more than double capacity with 125+ employees. The open office program includes functional offices, creative amenities, collaboration space, and innovative technology. DLR Group was the architect.

The company’s operations center serves as a visual and functional focal piece for the office. Encased in glass and located adjacent to the main lobby, the center monitors world-wide energy output and operations of NRG’s off-shore oil rigs and solar fields, as well as operations of NRG Stadium in Houston, TX.

The open-office concept is framed by 3D “origami-inspired” walls that curve and bend. Working from reference points and degree angles, the curving walls were handcrafted from wood framing and rigid drywall – evidence of Jokake’s ability to take a uniquely creative idea from creative conceptual design through construction into the living world.
